Manchester United supporters were delighted with the prospect of watching Michael Carrick perform for one final time in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Englishman is expected to retire from professional football at the end of the season but his Old Trafford appearance against Watford may likely be his last one in the club’s shirt.
Carrick was offered a sublime farewell as he was handed a starting role during the Hornets game and he made the most of the occasion by putting in a top-notch performance.
The 36-year-old was a calming influence in the centre of the park versus the Hornets but his highlight moment came via a stunning long-range pass for Juan Mata in the lead up to Marcus Rashford’s goal.
As such, some of the supporters were in disbelief that Carrick would be retiring soon and they expressed their pleasure at watching Carrick rolling back the years with an impressive showing.
No way should Carrick retire. No effing way. Easily could handle 10 PL games next season.

Michael Carrick has just played an absolutely fantastic pass to set up Rashford's goal. Clever run from Mata but Carrick's pass was top class. He's having a good game.

Sad to see Michael Carrick play his last ever game for Manchester United. What a superb servant to the club – an amazing role model to the younger generation. He'll be a valuable asset to have in the coaching team.

Michael Carrick, aged 36 and with only four starts this season, is still by far and away the best passer of the ball this country has to offer. So graceful.

Carrick would definitely have played an extended role during the current campaign but a procedure for an irregular heart rhythm, unfortunately, hampered his first-team chances.
Regardless of this, the club could keep him a fitting farewell next weekend by lifting the FA Cup trophy against Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium. United are after a joint-record 13 FA Cup title alongside Arsenal.
