‘Best in the world,’ Man United fans react to De Gea’s showing vs Man City

Manchester United supporters were elated with the performance of goalkeeper David de Gea during Saturday’s 3-2 derby win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Jose Mourinho’s side sparkled a tremendous second-half comeback to clinch three points against their arch-rivals, and De Gea came with probably the most-defining impact of the game.

United looked on course for a victory after a Paul Pogba brace and a Chris Smalling header, but the match could have had a different complexion, had De Gea not pulled out another stunning save.

Sergio Aguero appeared on course to deliver City with at least a point on the day, but the Spain international managed to tip the striker’s headed effort over the bar from literally point-blank range.

The Spaniard has made it a trend of putting in world-class performances on a weekly basis, but much of it has to do with a United defence, which has struggled to stand firm in front of him.

Nevertheless, United should celebrate De Gea’s presence at the club, and the faithful will be hoping that United can sort out his long-term future at the earliest possibility.

The 27-year-old is said to be in discussions over a 50 percent hike on his current wages, and reports suggest a deal should be finalised before the Spaniard heads for this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.
