Manchester United will travel to Germany to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League Group A opening game on Wednesday.
The Red Devils have made a stuttering start to their new campaign and will be looking to avoid their third defeat in a row.
They have conceded six goals in their previous two games and lost with a 3-1 scoreline against both Arsenal and Brighton. Clearly, a strong performance is needed.
Ahead of the match, Erik ten Hag has made it clear that both Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka won’t be playing this game.
Wan-Bissaka – who picked up an injury in the previous game – is now set to be out for several weeks. Likewise, Maguire hasn’t travelled to Germany as he picked up an injury in training.
Ten Hag doesn’t have many options to rotate his players at the moment. With Jadon Sancho and Antony still out, the chances are high that the Dutchman will stick to the same line-up from the previous game.
Andre Onana has been a constant figure since he made the move this summer from Inter Milan. The Cameroon international is struggling to keep clean sheets at the moment, but he is an undisputed starter.
Ten Hag will be buoyed by the return of Raphael Varane but the former Real Madrid defender won’t be risked for this game. In fact, he hasn’t travelled with the side.
Thus, the quartet of Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, and Sergio Reguilon are expected to start, with Jonny Evans remaining an option from the bench.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are likely to start, but Ten Hag must make a decision on Scott McTominay. The 26-year-old failed to impress in the previous game, and the Dutchman could be tempted to drop him in place of Alejandro Garnacho.
However, it will be too risky to go into an away fixture with four attacking players. McTominay is likely to be given another opportunity.
Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Rasmus Hojlund are expected to keep their place.
Predicted Man United XI (4-3-3): Onana; Dalot, Lindelof, Martinez, Reguilon; Casemiro, Eriksen, McTominay; Fernandes, Hojlund, Rashford
