According to ESPN, Manchester United want a deal with Real Madrid for Gareth Bale, but the 28-year-old’s ‘preference in to remain’ at the Santiago Bernabéu this summer.
Bale had an uncertain future at Real after admitting frustration over his bit-part role under Zinedine Zidane, but he may be open to stay following the Frenchman’s resignation.
The Welsh international joined Real from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 and has gone on to make over 180 appearances in all competitions.
Injuries have limited his playing time for the Spanish giants, but Bale still helped them win four Champions Leagues, one Copa Del Rey and one La Liga title.
Last season, however, saw Bale become a victim of stiff competition in attack. The likes of Isco, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio took appearances off the 28-year-old in important games which led to the ex-Southampton man to become disillusioned at the Bernabéu.
United were hoping to take advantage by landing their long-time transfer target, but Bale may now have made a U-turn on any decision to leave Real.
Manager Jose Mourinho played down making an attacking signing this summer, as he already has Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata in the squad.
It appears they won’t be get Bale regardless.
