Brazilian coach explains why Fred did not feature at the World Cup

Brazil manager Tite has given his explanation for Fred’s inability to make the starting lineup during the ongoing World Cup in Russia. Manchester United’s new summer signing failed to make a single appearance for the Selecao over the course of the tournament and they were eventually eliminated in the quarter-final stage by Belgium.

Speaking after Selecao’s exit, Tite was asked about Fred’s absence on the playing field to which he said that the 25-year-old had not entirely recovered from an ankle problem sustained from a tackle from compatriot Casemiro in training.

“Fred had a one-stroke problem and he was unable to make a full recovery,” he is quoted as saying by UOL Esporte.

Fred could not make the impact he would have hoped for prior to the World Cup but the United supporters would surely not be worried, considering the midfielder has left the tournament with any setback on his recovery.

Nevertheless, the Brazilian is now expected to enter an extended holiday after spending nearly an entire month in Russia and this is certain to prolong the supporters’ wait to watch him in the United shirt.

United are expected without Paul Pogba for the Premier League opener amid his ongoing exploits for France at the World Cup and hopefully, Fred can make a quick turnaround from his vacation to try and adapt to his new surroundings.
