According to the Mirror, former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal could make a return to the Premier League, with Chelsea lining him up to replace Antonio Conte.
The Blues are currently fifth in the Premier League table with 53 points from 28 games. Conte’s men won the title last season, finishing with seven points more of runners-up Tottenham Hotspur, but they’ve performed considerably worse this time round.
Chelsea are two points adrift in the top-four race this season and 19 short of leaders Manchester City. As a result of their poor form, Conte could be on his way out of the club at the end of the season, and van Gaal might be the manager to replace him.
The Dutch coach was in charge of Manchester United between 2014 and 2016, presiding over 100 games and winning the FA Cup in 2015/16. Van Gaal boasts a wealth of experience, managing AZ Alkmaar, Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and the Netherlands national team.
The 66-year-old revealed an interest to return to the Premier League too, so he may be open to joining Chelsea if they put an offer to him. Van Gaal may have been underwhelming during his stint at Manchester United but the Londoners could offer him a chance at redemption.
