Chelsea legend explains why this Manchester United star is like Thierry Henry

Romelu Lukaku

Legendary Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has gone on to claim that Manchester United attacker Romelu Lukaku has a playing style reminiscent to the great Thierry Henry.

When Manchester United splashed a whopping £75million to acquire the services of Romelu Lukaku in the summer, many were skeptical regarding whether the Belgian international would be able to justify such a huge price tag.

Six games into the campaign though, Lukaku has already found the back of the net on 6 occasions for the Red Devils so far and it is already clear to see that the 24-year-old is well on his way to become a success at Old Trafford.

Lukaku has certainly silenced his doubters with his goalscoring exploits so far this term and now Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has reserved special praise for the former Everton star.

Lampard stated that although Lukaku does not boast the best of first touches, he is a player who can pose ominous danger to opposition defences while cutting in from the wide areas and compared the young striker to the iconic Arsenal star Thierry Henry in terms of playing style.

Lampard said on BT Sport, “He worked hard. He is intelligent. With Lukaku, you’re not going to get a delicate touch. His size doesn’t allow it.

“He came in attacking from the right side is reminiscent of Thierry Henry back in the day. From those inside right areas, he can cut in on his left and score a lot of goals from that area.”
