‘Not Ozil’, Man United more likely to sign this £110,000-a-week star

Former Chelsea star Ray Wilkins has stated that Willian is more likely to join Manchester United than Mesut Ozil.

Mesut Ozil’s contract at Arsenal is set to expire at the end of the current Premier League campaign and with the German international showing no interest in signing an extension, there has been widespread reports that he will be leaving the Emirates Stadium – either in January or at the conclusion of the season.

It is no secret that Manchester United are currently monitoring Ozil’s contractual situation very closely and given the fact that manager Jose Mourinho shares a very good relationship with the 29-year-old, a reunion at Old Trafford has been seen as a real possibility.

However, Chelsea legend Ray Wilkins is not very convinced that Ozil will be a good fit for United despite all his qualities due to the fact that the playmaker does not work very hard off the ball and instead suggested that the player who could actually be set for a reunion with Mourinho at United is Willian.

Wilkins said, “Mesut Ozil won’t go to Old Trafford because he doesn’t have the work ethic that Mourinho looks for in his players. I actually see Willian as being the likely player to head to Old Trafford. Jose is an enormous admirer of Willian and he would be a special signing for United, but I pray that Chelsea don’t let him go.”

“Ozil needs to go back to Germany, enjoy his football again and get around the pitch as he likes doing. In the Premier League, you’re expected to work hard defensively for your team, and I don’t think Mesut does that enough. Against Spurs, he was excellent in doing that, tracking Christian Eriksen, but he needs to do that every game, it can’t be one game in 20.”
