Chelsea manager Conte admits Manchester United transfer spoilt his major plans

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has gone on to bemoan the fact that selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United has spoilt his plans for Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Chelsea sold Nemanja Matic to Manchester United for around £40million this summer and while it has to be said that the Blues did very well to receive such a sizeable amount for a player nearing his 30’s, manager Antonio Conte has not been left too impressed by the sale.

Matic had been a crucial part of the Chelsea side that romped their way to the Premier League title last season and the Italian manager has not made his disapproval of the sale of the Serbian international to United a secret.

Now in another expression of his frustration regarding the transfer, Conte has revealed that he initially wanted new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko to adapt to the Premier League by shadowing Matic and bemoaned the fact that he will now have to start all over again by recruiting another midfielder.

Conte said, “Bakayoko is a good signing for us. He is very young. My idea was to give Bakayoko the right time to adapt in this league behind Matic. But now we have Cesc Fabregas and we are trying to find another midfielder. Because now we have only three midfielders and we need another midfielder.”

What is Conte’s loss has been United’s gain as Matic delivered a strong performance during the Red Devils’ 2-1 UEFA Super Cup defeat against Real Madrid and the midfielder will be crucial if Jose Mourinho’s men are to challenge for the title during the upcoming campaign.
