Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas admits to having sleepless nights after Jose Mourinho got sacked from his post as manager of the Blues back in 2015.
Jose Mourinho led Chelsea to the Premier League title during the 2014/15 season but a remarkable dip in form during the following campaign meant that the Portuguese manager was sacked from his role as Blues boss in December 2015.
It was widely suspected that Mourinho was unable to get the desired results after the players turned on him and one of the key figures believed to have assisted in helping the now Manchester United manager to get the sack from Chelsea was Cesc Fabregas.
Fabregas was even labeled a ‘rat’ by a number of Chelsea supporters following the departure of Mourinho and now the Spaniard has gone on to admit that he feels guilt at seeing his former lose his job under such acrimonious circumstances.
Fabregas said, “I still wonder myself because it was such a shame. You go to bed sometimes and you think of many things and sometimes you cannot sleep.
“Still sometimes it bothers me because I could look from the outside as a fan and think, ‘these guys are not even trying’. But we just forgot to play football.
“You felt that those six months we were nowhere close to what we really were just a few months before. But it happened and I felt bad for it.
“We still talk today. He is probably the manager that I have had the best feeling and connection for. Apart from Arsene [Wenger], the one I have the most contact with is Jose.”
