Former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu believes Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has fallen out with manager Jose Mourinho, which is why the Swedish international hasn’t been playing this season, reports The Sun.
Ibrahimovic has made just seven appearances in all competitions this season, making only one start in the Premier League against Burnley and another in the EFL Cup against Bristol City (both in December 2017).
The 36-year-old hasn’t featured for United this year and could leave the club without stepping onto the pitch again at this rate. The belief among most is that he’s struggling with injury but Mutu says otherwise.
“I don’t want to know anything about Mourinho. He never cares about putting on a show for the fans, he just cares about the result. A source assures me that Ibrahimovic is not injured — he has just fallen out with Mourinho,” he said to Telekom Sport Romania.
Mutu played under Mourinho at Chelsea and had a major fallout with the Portuguese coach over accusations of lying about an injury before a 2006 World Cup qualifier for Romania.
He tested positive for cocaine and received a seven-month ban which led to a major dispute over a breach of contract. Mutu, who played for Juventus, Fiorentina, Cesena, Ajaccio, Petrolul Ploiesti, Pune City and ASA Targu Mures after leaving Chelsea, won’t have a nice thing to say about Mourinho, but it wouldn’t be surprising if his claims were true.
Reports emerged that Paul Pogba and the United boss had a fallout earlier in the season, so would it really be a shock if the £180k-per-week star had one too?
