Club legend explains why Alexis Sanchez will be a success at Man United

Manchester United favourite Ryan Giggs has backed Alexis Sanchez to be a top player under Jose Mourinho despite his limited impact in terms of goals and assists. The Chile international arrived at Old Trafford in January in a straight-swap agreement which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to the Gunners.

Sanchez has since produced a mixed bag in terms of performances, but Giggs believes that Sanchez will only get better with his teammates yet to understand his game and his positioning on the playing field, he said: “He’s a top player. He’s only scored one goal so far, so I’m sure he’d want to do better than that, but I think he’s done okay.”

“His team-mates are still trying to find out what he likes, what he doesn’t like, the dynamics of the team. Sometimes it fits straight away, sometimes it takes a bit of time. I don’t think anyone should be worried about Alexis Sanchez, he’s a top, top player.”

Despite contributing just one goal and two assists in seven appearances, Sanchez has been a lively influence on the pitch, though a section of the fans are not impressed with his tendency to lose possession.

The Chilean has the ability to change the complexion of the game within a moment, and an example of this, was his sublime cross for Romelu Lukaku against Sevilla, which the Belgian could not capitalise on.

Very few players are capable of turning up mid-season for a new club with performances, and judging Sanchez’s work-rate on the field, it won’t be long before the Chilean catches his stride to put in standout performances.
