Manchester United have confirmed Dean Henderson has joined Sheffield United on a season-long loan. The 21-year-old recently signed a new deal with the Red Devils and could have a bright future at Old Trafford when he’s finally given his first senior appearance.
Henderson has featured for the u18, u19s and now the u23s for United without ever getting the nod for the first-team, but he’s continued his development by embarking upon on a series of loan spells elsewhere. The England u21 international has had temporary spells at Stockport County, Grimsby and Shrewsbury.
His season with the Shrews saw him make 48 appearances in all competitions, conceding 39 goals and making 19 clean sheets. He helped Town reach the League One playoffs, although they eventually lost to Rotherham United in the final. Nevertheless, his performances didn’t go unnoticed and now he’s committed his future to United in the form of a contract extension.
Sheffield United will have Henderson at their disposal for 2018/19 and the goalkeeper will be hoping he can continue his fine form between the sticks to give Jose Mourinho something to think about when he returns to Old Trafford next summer.
