If reports in the media are anything to go by then Frenkie de Jong could end up securing a move to Manchester United this summer.

As per a story published by Corriere dello Sport today (news image provided below), Barcelona have a debt of over a billion euros and they have to bring it to an acceptable level by 30th June.

Transfer: Advantage Man Utd – Ten Hag in driving seat to sign £50million+ attacker – Report

The famous Italian news source have mentioned that president Joan Laporta needs to sell players and reduce the wage bill in order to strengthen Xavi’s squad in the summer transfer window.

In such a scenario, the Catalan club have already sold their record signing, Philippe Coutinho, to Aston Villa and got rid of his mammoth salary of 23 million euros per year.

Corriere dello Sport report the next to pack his bag will be De Jong, who is close to Manchester United move, and he will not be the last to leave Barca this summer. Laporta is still optimistic and hopes that he can turn the situation around without selling key players. He claimed:

“We are working. If we manage to settle the accounts with the operations we are preparing, no player will leave for economic reasons”

Last week, AS reported that if the 5-time European champions receive a bid of £60million then they will sell the Netherlands star.

The 25-year-old has not been able to find his best form since leaving Ten Hag’s Ajax for Barcelona in 2019. The new Man Utd boss knows all about the qualities of De Jong and can revitalize his compatriot.

We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming weeks.
