Manchester United are reported to be on the brink of signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal this month. The Chile international did not feature in the Gunners’ Premier League defeat at Bournemouth and manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that a decision on the attacker is ‘imminent’.
According to Sky Sports News, United are heading the queue to sign the former Barcelona man with arch-rivals Manchester City reluctant to match the Gunners’ £35m asking price. The report adds that the Red Devils could discuss a part-exchange deal with their north London counterparts with Henrikh Mkhitaryan likely to be offered as a makeweight.
Sanchez had his family arrive at the English capital earlier yesterday, and the Chilean now appears certain to leave the Emirates for a move to Manchester. The Citizens were the Chilean’s preferred choice owing to his former association with Pep Guardiola, but United seem to have jumped ahead after offering him the chance to become the Premier League’s highest-earner.
Both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have swapped positions on the left side of the attack, but the arrival of Sanchez is likely to hamper the progress of one of the pair, unless Jose Mourinho opts to play them on the right wing.
