AS Roma director Monchi revealed Manchester United offered them Daley Blind on deadline day, which they rejected as they considered him too expensive, reports The Scottish Sun.
The 27-year-old, who joined United from Ajax in 2014, has made more than 130 appearances for the Red Devils in the last four years. However, Blind has been subsidiary this season, making just three Premier League starts and featuring more heavily in the domestic cups.
As the January transfer window approached, the Dutch international looked on his way out of Old Trafford, but it appears he will now stay at least until the end of the season. United had offered Blind a solution to his lack of playing time, trying to tempt Roma into making a bid, but the deal broke down at the last minute.
“Blind was offered to us and he was evaluated from both a sporting and financial point of view. However, we decided not go get him. Let’s not forget the financial stand point — otherwise, we’d sign every player in the world,” said Monchi.
Blind’s contract at United is up at the end of next season, so the Red Devils might have to move him on ahead of 2018/19 if they want to reclaim some of their money back for him. Otherwise, a loan deal or bench role with United could be options.
Roma sold Emerson Palmieri late in the window but opted against bringing in a replacement.
