Done — Manchester United agree two-year contract with 30-year-old midfielder

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with midfielder Marouane Fellaini regarding a two-year extension. The Belgium international has been tipped to leave Old Trafford over the past month but there appears to have been a major U-turn in terms of the contract discussions.

According to Yahoo! Sport, the 30-year-old has now accepted a fresh two-year deal with Jose Mourinho’s side and therefore snubbed the interest from direct rivals Arsenal.

Fellaini’s departure had been welcomed by the vast majority of the United faithful earlier this month and the club’s decision to commit him to a new deal is likely to generate plenty of frustration towards the manager.

Fellaini has shown a distinct lack of pace which has made him a vulnerability at the heart of the United midfield but the hierarchy appear to have gone with the preference of Mourinho to extend the Belgian’s stay.

Meanwhile, the decision to keep Fellaini is also expected to change United’s priority for the transfer window with Mourinho likely to shelve the club’s plans of recruiting a young box-to-box midfielder.

Regardless of this, the fans can look into the positives with Fred due to bring a much-needed spark in midfield and hopefully there is further transfer business to come with the left-back position remaining a concern.

  1. BIG MISTAKE–SOME ONE WHO NEVER DESIRED TO REMAIN IN UTD FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS, NO GOOD OFFERS FROM OTHER CLUBS, HE THEN DECIDED TO REMAIN… THATS TOO BAD.. HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE CLUB TO WHEREVER. AFTER DELAYING THE PACE OF OUR GAME WHENEVER HE COME IN.
