‘It is a dream come true’, 20-year-old Targets First-Team Breakthrough Under Jose Mourinho

Manchester United graduate Scott McTominay is hoping to emulate the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard by cementing a regular spot in the Manchester United team. The midfielder has come through the youth ranks at Old Trafford, and he is currently plying his trade regularly for the development squad.

The 20-year-old made his United debut coming off the bench against Arsenal earlier in May, and this was followed by a start in the 2-0 triumph over Crystal Palace in the final game of 2016/17 season.

In a report covered by Sky Sports, McTominay has admitted that it is a dream come true after playing for the senior squad, he said: “It’s crazy when you think back all those years to when you’re five years old going to the development centre, and then going all the way through the ranks. It honestly is a dream come true for me to be playing in the first team, and playing against teams like Real Madrid.

“But obviously you just want more and more of that and that is the main thing for my career: to be playing in big games, in competitive games and just do my best and hopefully see where it takes me.”

McTominay came on as a second-half substitute in Real Madrid friendly back in July, and he, later on, scored his first senior goal during an unofficial game in Norway against Valerenga.

The midfielder has been included in the United squad for the third round League Cup tie against Burton Albion, and Jose Mourinho could offer him some valuable playing time on Wednesday night.

The likes of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial are also expected to get a run-out in the Cup game after having been regulars from the bench in the Premier League.
