Dutch defender heading back to Manchester United in January

Timothy Fosu-Mens

Timothy Fosu-Mensah could return to Manchester United in the January transfer window with Crystal Palace looking to cut short his season-long loan contract.

The Netherlands international was a regular during the initial weeks of the campaign with former coach Frank de Boer, but he has seemingly fallen out-of-favour under Roy Hodgson, who is aiming to reinforce his strike force in the New Year.

According to The Guardian h/t M.E.N, the Eagles are seriously considering the prospect of sending Fosu-Mensah back to Old Trafford with Hodgson having set his sights on pursuing a loan deal for Liverpool’s Danny Ings.

Premier League clubs are allowed to include just two loan players in their matchday squad, and the former England boss is prepared to sacrifice the Dutchman with a view to bolstering his frontline for the relegation battle ahead.

Fosu-Mensah is regarded as one of the finest youth prospects in the United ranks, and Jose Mourinho would no doubt welcome the Dutchman’s return to the first-team with the club still competing across all competitions.

His impressive form in the early part of the campaign earned him his maiden cap for Holland under Dick Advocaat, and his future looks bright with his potential to feature in central defence, right-back or holding midfield.
