£4m a year manager tempted to agree Manchester United move – Insider

Erik ten Hag - Manchester United manager

Manchester United managed to get past Brentford with a 2-1 win in what could prove to be a very important game for the future of Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch coach miraculously survived the axe during the international break but a loss to Bees would have almost certainly proved to be the nail in the coffin.

It’s worth noting that the Red Devils were trailing after a controversial goal by Brentford when Matthijs de Ligt was off the pitch.

Fortunately, Ten Hag’s team, like they so often do at dire times, stepped up in the second half with goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund helping the Dutch coach some much-needed breathing room.

However, the start to the season has been so poor that despite this victory over Brentford, Ten Hag continues to find himself in hot water.

The decision to not let him go so far could be down to the fact that there is no qualified free agent in the market who they can be sure of doing a better job than the ex-Ajax coach. Thomas Tuchel was the only option but even he has been snapped up by the FA for the England job.

Now, as per former scout Mick Brown as quoted by Football Insider, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe would love to jump at the opportunity to manage Manchester United, as he is confident of solving the mess that the esteemed club is going through. Here is what he had to say:

“I’ve heard he’d be tempted by the opportunity. If Ten Hag was sacked tomorrow, where would they go next? That’s why the owners haven’t pulled the trigger, and that’s why Howe’s name is on their list.”

Should Man Utd hire Eddie Howe to replace Ten Hag?

If there is one thing that can be said with certainty, it is that there is a genuine dearth of high-quality English managers going around. Eddie Howe is arguably the best of the lot and has proved his credentials with Newcastle United.

Graham Potter is a good shout. The lesser said about Gareth Southgate, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, the better.

England’s decision to hire a head coach for the national team who is German has copped a lot of flak. Manchester United, on the other hand, could do with an English manager like Eddie Howe.

The talented tactician has shown that he can get the best out of his team, despite injuries, and make them play a decent brand of football. The tactician currently earns around £4m a year at St. James Park.

Should Erik ten Hag be given the sack, looking at Eddie Howe isn’t a bad option for Erik ten Hag. However, it must be said that one cannot understand why the English coach would even consider swapping an incredibly promising project at Tyneside for an almost-dead project at Manchester.

Only time will tell if these claims have any truth but for that, it has to be seen if Man Utd make the decision to let go of their Dutch manager.
