After 3-0 drubbing of Manchester United at the hands of Liverpool last weekend, it almost felt like Erik ten Hag was a dead man walking.
Two losses in his first three games of the season after being backed with £220.4m worth of investment in signings is not an ideal way to start.

Ten Hag’s team showed signs of improvement against Fulham and even against Brighton despite losing that game but against Liverpool, they simply did not turn up.
Had the Reds from Merseyside been in a more rampant mood and not taken their feet off the pedal, this could have turned ugly for the former Ajax coach.
As per Dutch journalist, Valentijn Driessen, writing in his column for De Telegraaf, Erik ten Hag’s time at Manchester United is up and it’s only a matter of time before he is shown the exit door. That could be the case unless the results change drastically.
His time at Manchester United has been a mixed bag with more downs than ups. This summer, it would have come as no surprise had the Dutchman been let go but the Red Devils decided to show faith in retaining him and backing him with all the signings.
Having spent so much money, it wouldn’t make sense to let Erik ten Hag to leave Manchester United right now. If one had asked the same at the end of last season, we would have told differently but signing players for one coach and hiring another might end up complicating issues even more.
It must be kept in mind that Leny Yoro is not fit yet and Manuel Ugarte is yet to make an appearance. The 54-year-old manager is also dealing with a few injury issues in the squad and it’s important to give him a few months before making a decision.
Should this not work out, the Red Devils run the risk of writing off yet another season having made no progress.
However, we think it’s a risk they need to be willing to take to see if Ten Hag can shift the narrative. Only time will tell if he manages to do that and save his Man Utd job.
