Manchester United outcast Luke Shaw should take a wage-cut and join Tottenham if the young full-back wants to revive his career, according to player-turned-pundit Andy Townsend.
Luke Shaw has failed to impress manager Jose Mourinho over the past 18 months or so and it now looks like the Manchester United outcast is set for an inevitable exit from Old Trafford.
The talks of a possible departure for Shaw has led many to link the young defender with a move to Tottenham as Spurs are currently being managed by Mauricio Pochettino, the man under whom the young left-back excelled as a player at Southampton.
However, Shaw’s wage demands have led many to doubt the feasibility of his potential move to North London as Tottenham have a strict wage structure in place at Wembley.
Nonetheless, former Chelsea star Andy Townsend believes that Shaw’s transfer to Tottenham can still go through if the ex-Southampton man takes a pay cut.
Townsend also said that it will be best for Shaw to take a pay-cut and move to Tottenham rather than see out his contract at United by stating, “Yes he should consider a pay cut.
“At Luke’s age, he has to contemplate that to get regular football. He can’t stay at United forever and not get a game. Money cannot be his God at this stage of his life.”
