Manchester United entertain Manchester City in the local derby on Sunday evening. Jose Mourinho’s side are currently on a four-match winning streak in the Premier League, but they are still playing catch up to the Citizens, who have dropped points on just one occasion in 15 matches.
David de Gea earned a well-earned rest in midweek following his heroics against Arsenal last weekend. The Spain international is expected to start his 16th straight league game for United, who are looking to break the record for the most games without defeat at Old Trafford.
Mourinho has hinted that Phil Jones could return to the starting lineup, and we are backing the Englishman to start alongside Chris Smalling and the much-organised Victor Lindelof in a three-man central defence.
Antonio Valencia surprisingly featured during the win over CSKA Moscow, but he is still the preferred pick to start at right wing-back spot this weekend. Likewise, Ashley Young could be fancied to feature at left wing-back despite Luke Shaw putting in an impressive performance in midweek.
Onto the midfield, Mourinho has assured that Nemanja Matic will make the starting lineup despite carrying a minor muscular problem. The Portuguese tactician also described Marouane Fellaini to have a ‘chance’ to feature in the derby, and the Belgian could be risked from the off as he provides the physical presence in the absence of the suspended Paul Pogba.
Jesse Lingard has been in sparkling form of late with three goals in the space of two Premier League games, and the Englishman could be backed to start just ahead of the central midfielders. Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku have been the preferred pairing upfront in the 3-4-1-2 formation, and Mourinho could probably persist with the partnership with Marcus Rashford on the bench.
