Fellaini and Lukaku start, 4-2-3-1: Mourinho could spoil Guardiola’s party with this lineup

Manchester United are at Old Trafford for Sunday’s derby showdown versus Manchester City. Jose Mourinho’s side have won four Premier League games on the trot since the international break, and the Portuguese will seek to extend United’s run further as they aim to close the gap on the Citizens, who are eight points clear at the top of the table.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Lineup:

David de Gea has been ever-present for the Premier League duties this term, and there is no doubt over his participation in goal for the derby after his world-class performance at Arsenal last weekend.

Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young could feature in the right and left-back positions in the four-at-the-back formation with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling making up the heart of the defence.

Mourinho has already confirmed Nemanja Matic’s involvement in the game, and the Serbian is likely to take up his regular role in the centre of the park with Marouane Fellaini a potential candidate to partner him.

Jesse Lingard has been in a purple patch of late with three goals in the space of just two Premier League games, and he could feature in the number 10 position with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford featuring on either side of him.

Romelu Lukaku ended a four-match barren run with a goal in midweek against CSKA Moscow, and the Belgian will hope to get onto the scoresheet against a top-six opposition, which he has not achieved in the United colours.
