French journalist Julien Laurens has revealed that Paul Pogba is eager to play alongside compatriot Antoine Griezmann at Manchester United. The Red Devils came close to signing the versatile forward during the previous transfer window, but the Frenchman made a U-turn after Atletico Madrid failed to have their transfer embargo overturned.
Since then, Griezmann has regularly been linked with the Red Devils with Jose Mourinho keen on adding a ‘magician’ in his attack front, and according to Laurens, United remain a ‘credible option’ for the attacker owing to his excellent relationship with Pogba on and off the field.
“It’s going to be interesting because he hasn’t had a very good season so far compared to what we have been used to before. He was very close to leaving in the summer but stayed being loyal to the club because they couldn’t sign anyone to play before January,” he is quoted as saying by M.E.N.
“Now it looks maybe like Barcelona will be his favourite destination, although I do not know if they will have the 100m euro to pay his release fee. His friend Paul Pogba is very keen for him to join Manchetser United so that remains a very credible option for him.”
As of now, Barcelona are heading the pursuit of the former Real Sociedad man with club president Josep Bartomeu said to have met with the player’s family to push through a summer move. Griezmann’s release clause of £177m will be halved to just around £88m in June, and United could make surprise approach just like they did with Romelu Lukaku earlier this summer.
There had been talk of Griezmann potentially leaving Atletico Madrid with the return of Diego Costa this month, but it appears that the duo could feature together for the season at the least, as the Frenchman eyes some kind of silverware before pursuing a new challenge in the summer.
