£67.5million player will snub rivals, prefers Man United move – Report

De Jong and De Ligt - Netherlands

If reports in the media are anything to go by then Chelsea are pressing hard to beat Manchester United for the signing of Frenkie de Jong.

As per today’s version of Sport (press image provided below), Blues’ new owner, Todd Boehly is in Barcelona to negotiate with the Catalan club.

Transfer: Man Utd agree contracts to sign £130million stars – Report

The famous Spanish media outlet claim that the Stamford Bridge side are ready to overtake the Red Devils to sign the 25-year-old midfielder.

It is stated that Tuchel’s team are ready to offer cash plus Alonso and Azpilicueta to hire the services of the former Ajax man. On the other hand, Man Utd are stuck after offering €60m fixed and €20m in variables.

Barcelona have made it clear that they want a fixed payment of €80m (£67.5million) to sell the player, who wishes to stay at the Nou Camp.

Sport claim that in case of departure, De Jong will snub Chelsea and prefers a move to Man United to work under the management of Erik ten Hag.

This would be a surprising decision because the London side can offer Champions League football and United will be playing in the Europa League next term.

Nevertheless, the Blues remain very serious and Boehly had dinner with Barca president, Joan Laporta, and sporting director, Mateu Alemany. Coach, Xavi Hernandez, has personally requested the Blaugrana to sign both the Chelsea fullbacks.

De Jong has been United’s priority target this summer and the Red Devils must act swiftly and meet the asking price of £67.5million (fixed) if they are to get the signing done.
