GALLERY: United jet into Miami to face Liverpool in the final

What a difference things are in the Manchester United World since last pre-season, with an awful run of results under David Moyes on their Asian tour, to this summer under the management of Louis van Gaal, having only conceded three goals and won every single match on their USA tour, landing a place in the final against Liverpool.

After the squad put in a fantastic performance to beat Spanish giants Real Madrid 3-1 on Saturday night, they have now flown from Michigan to Miami in preparation for the final. Ashley Young scored two of United’s three goals against Real Madrid, and he himself is more than excited about the prospect of facing Liverpool in the final. Speaking with manutd.com, Young said:

“There is no better game to finish the tour with

“We all know the rivalry with the two teams – it’ll be a great occasion and everyone can’t wait. People may look at it as pre-season but it’s Liverpool and we want to go out and win the game and the trophy.

“It was a fantastic result [against Madrid]. We wanted to be on the front foot from the start and that’s what happened. We only needed a draw but we’re Manchester United so we were only focused on the win. And we want to win the whole tournament now.

“It doesn’t matter that it’s pre-season, we’re here to try to pick up the trophy. We’re in the final and we want to win it.”

Manchester United vs Liverpool kicks off at 1am BST on Tuesday morning, so an early/late time for those watching in the United Kingdom. Even though this game is classed as a friendly, it surely won’t bee seen that way by both sides. Getting one over on each other before the season starts would be a fantastic pre-season preparation.

  2. Manchester United wins Liverpool 2 – 0. More importantly I want actions taken let LVG start buying players to our weak areas. Also hope to play a flexible football this season and not restricted to 3-4-1-2 formation alone.
