Gary Neville expects ‘ruthless streak’ from this Manchester United Star

Romelu Lukaku

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has warned Romelu Lukaku that the Belgian international needs to produce during the big games in order to be considered a success at Old Trafford.

Manchester United splashed a whopping £75million to acquire the services of Romelu Lukaku from Everton this summer and many were skeptical as to whether the Belgian international would be able to justify his huge price tag at Old Trafford.

To silence his doubters though, Lukaku has enjoyed a brilliant start to life at United by scoring a sensational 11 goals in 10 appearances in all competitions so far and his exploits in front of goal have been the main reason behind the Red Devils fine start to the campaign.

While Lukaku has impressed many, club legend Gary Neville believes that the 24-year-old still has some convincing to do and ahead of the clash against Liverpool at Anfield, the former defender has stated that the young attacker needs to perform during the big games in order to be considered a world class player.

Neville said, “Romelu Lukaku has settled in brilliantly and done everything he was asked to do in terms of converting those home draws into wins, but games like this one are the real test.

“When I look back to the Everton striker’s recent performances at Anfield he didn’t play well, so this is the next step up for him. Going away to Anfield is a big test and his service will be more limited so he’s now got to show the ruthless streak to win the big games for United.

“He will be defined by his performances in big matches. You’re at a club with aspirations of winning things and a world class striker will be defined by trophies and performances in big matches.”
