Giggs: This star can help Man United end their Premier League title drought

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs believes his former club can end their Premier League title drought next term, and backs Paul Pogba to play a significant role through the 2018/19 campaign.

The France international was a surprise exclusion from the starting lineup versus Huddersfield Town last weekend where Jose Mourinho opted to play Scott McTominay alongside Nemanja Matic.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Giggs stressed that United have all the ingredients to excel in the forward department, but the club need to find the additional creativity from the midfield in order to match Manchester City, he said: “They’ve got pace, guile, goals, experience and make up a really top forward line.

“I would say the forward line is as good as Manchester City’s, but the difference is the way of playing, with Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva behind consistently finding the front three for City.

“United have Paul Pogba who could potentially be as good as them, but then Nemanja Matic is more defensive, so it is just that creative area where City have got the upper hand.”

Pogba has generally played in a two-man midfield partnership with Matic, but Giggs followed the recent opinion of ex-teammate Wayne Rooney by stressing that the Frenchman could be more beneficial playing on the left side of a midfield three.

The 24-year-old undoubtedly put in his best performance under a 4-3-3 formation on the road to Everton, where he contributed a couple of assists, but Jose Mourinho has been reluctant to utilise a similar formation of late as it reduces the additional attacking threat, should the Frenchman have an off-day on the field.
