Manchester United have been given a boost as Real Madrid appear to be giving up on David De Gea. According to RMC Sport, Los Blancos are interested in AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson and could make a summer approach to bring the Brazilian international to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real have been trying to sign De Gea since 2012 and came within seconds of procuring his signature in 2015. They’ve been heavily linked with the Spanish international this season, but it now appears United will be keeping their Player of the Year.
All that’s left to sort is his contract. De Gea’s deal with United expires next summer and he’s yet to agree terms on an extension. As a result, his future remains somewhat uncertain while there’s the possibility he could yet leave for nothing in 12 months.
If the Red Devils fail to make progress, they may have to consider cashing in on the 27-year-old, rather than risk losing him for free in 2019, but this summer should see talks held between all parties.
Manager Jose Mourinho remains confident United can keep the talented stopper at the club, and Real turning their attentions elsewhere certainly makes their job a lot easier. He’s been in fine form this season, keeping 22 clean sheets in 45 games in all competitions.
