Good news for Man Utd as Real Madrid could agree £80million deal for 24-year-old

According to the Daily Star, Real Madrid demand £80million for Mateo Kovacic. Manchester United have been linked with the 24-year-old this summer as manager Jose Mourinho looks to bolster the midfield, but they will have to pay a big price to procure his signature. Kovacic looks on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu due to a lack of playing time in the last 12 months, but he won’t be sold for less than his asking price.

United have Marouane Fellaini, Fred, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic as options in midfield, but Kovacic would improve the squad. The Croatian international is a highly-rated box-to-box player who will provide industry in the middle of the park, but Real seem content to keep him. The 24-year-old joined Los Blancos from Inter Milan in 2015 and has gone on to make 109 appearances in all competitions.

Kovacic, who boats 46 caps for the national team, has won three Champions League trophies and one Liga title to show for his three years at the Bernabéu, but his short-term future is uncertain. The midfielder made only 10 league starts last season due to Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos being regulars in the first-team, but whether United can capitalise on the situation remains to be seen. £80m is a lot of money for the Croatian.
