Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has provided an injury update on the first-team squad ahead of Thursday’s Premier League game against West Ham United.
Speaking in his pre-match press-conference, Mourinho confirmed both Alexis Sanchez and Phil Jones have returned to the first-team squad, though Romelu Lukaku remains on the sidelines with an ankle problem.
Alongside Lukaku, compatriot Marouane Fellaini has been ruled out for the London trip after picking up a muscular injury in the 1-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last week.
“In terms of injuries, it’s Lukaku and Fellaini. They are the two players who are not available for tomorrow [Thursday]. [Phil] Jones is back, Sanchez is back and there are no more problems,” he said.
Manchester United are currently three points ahead of third-placed Tottenham Hotspur and they require another point from the remaining two games to guarantee themselves of the runner-up spot.
With the FA Cup final scheduled on May 19, Mourinho would undoubtedly want the runner-up race go into the curtain closer, and the Portuguese will be expecting a strong performance at the London Stadium.
Manchester United have won their previous meetings against West Ham with a minimum of two goals scored and just two conceded. The reverse fixture at Old Trafford ended in a comfortable 4-0 triumph for United.
