The Red Devils have been phenomenal so far in the season, recording nine wins in ten matches, as the only draw came at bet365 Stadium against Stoke City. United are currently in the second place with the same amount of points as their city rivals Man City, while the situation in the Champions League is also great, thanks to a pair of big victories over Basel and CSKA Moscow. Mourinho knows that Liverpool are going to attack from the first whistle, and is aware that his team must not concede in the first 20-25 minutes. He used to “park the bus” in the previous few visits at Anfield, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he opts for defensive tactics on Saturday as well.
Formation: 4-3-2-1
Lineup
Just like Liverpool, Man United lost their key player during the WC qualifications as Marouane Fellaini suffered a knee injury in a game between Bosnia & Herzegovina and Belgium. The midfielder will miss the next couple of weeks, but his absence could affect United more than Paul Pogba’s as Fellaini became an integral figure alongside Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park. Liverpool will undoubtedly play high pressure from the very start of the clash, so Mourinho will be without a target man who would serve perfectly in case United are forced to skip the midfield with long balls. Ander Herrera will probably take his place, but neither Herrera nor Matic are prolific as Fellaini and are more defensive-minded midfielders. Pogba and Michael Carrick are also sidelined, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo are out until 2018.
Man United Possible Starting Lineup (4-3-2-1): De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Blind, Young; Matic, Herrera; Rashford, Mkhitaryan, Mata; Lukaku.
