With reports suggesting that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have to wait for a year (The Sunday Mirror) to sign Jadon Sancho, Man United may have to sign an alternative and the name of Douglas Costa has been in the focus.
The Red Devils are interested in signing the Brazilian winger and they also want to hire the services of another Juventus star in the form of Alex Sandro (Calcio Mercato). The Samba duo have a combined worth 80 million euros (£72million).
Costa is going to turn 30 next month and would likely be a short term fix if we are to pursue Sancho again next year. Nevertheless, the South American attacker is a pacy star, who has the experience and quality to improve Man United provided that he remains fit.
In the last two years, the former Bayern Munich man has been highly injury prone.
Naturally, the 31-capped international is a right winger and if he does end up moving to Old Trafford then he should start in his preferred role. He could be deployed in the offense with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
As far as the left back situation is concerned, first choice star Luke Shaw is still 25 but since moving to Old Trafford in 2014, he has spent a lot of time on the treatment table.
Even in the last campaign, the England international missed 17 games due to various injury concerns (Transfermarkt). In his absence, Brandon Williams did a decent job but the 19-year-old still needs time to learn before becoming a regular starter.
In such a situation, an established left back like Alex Sandro would be a top addition. The 21-capped Selecao star should get straight into the starting XI if he does join the Red Devils.
Here is how Manchester United could line up with Costa and Sandro:
