Injury News: Man Utd hit by fresh injury blow as defender misses England training

Manchester United United centre-back Phil Jones sat out the England training session on Monday despite playing the full 90 minutes against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was initially deemed a doubt for the Eagles clash with a minor ankle problem, but Jose Mourinho surprisingly started him alongside Chris Smalling at the heart of the defence.

Jones went unscathed through the Red Devils’ 4-0 triumph over the Eagles, but he appears to have suffered a recurrence of his troublesome injury, which saw him miss the Champions League game against CSKA Moscow.

According to Sky Sports News, Jones played no part in the Three Lions training session, and he is likely to be assessed by the medical team to decide on his participation against Slovenia.

Jones has been in tip-top form for the Red Devils since the start of the season, forming an excellent bond alongside Eric Bailly in the central defensive department.

Apart from the minor blemish at Stoke City, United have secured three points from their remaining league games with Jones keeping a clean sheet.

With the next game against Liverpool not until a week on Saturday, Mourinho will be hoping that England do not take a risk on Jones as he has been one of the standout performers for United in their early league run.

Manchester United are currently tied with leaders Manchester City on 19 points, although they trail their cross-town rivals on goal difference.
