Manchester United are expected to monitor the fitness of first-team pair Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera prior to Saturday’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur.

According to ESPN FC, Rashford had complained a tightness in his hamstring during the first half of United’s League Cup triumph over Swansea City on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Herrera also suffered a knock on his ankle during the Cup outing following a strong challenge from former Tottenham Hotspur and current Swans full-back Kyle Naughton.

Both players are to be assessed by United’s medical team in the next couple of days, and ESPN understands that the pair will be deemed fit to take part in a vital league fixture against Spurs.

Jose Mourinho is already without the likes of Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini in the centre of the park, and having Herrera fit is more of a compulsion – with risks lying in starting an inexperienced Scott McTominay against Spurs.

The gaffer previously featured Rashford on the bench following a minor knock on international duty, and a similar ploy could be used against Mauricio Pochettino’s men, should the Englishman fail to regain full fitness.

Meanwhile, there is a massive boost at the heart of the defence with both Phil Jones and Eric Bailly likely to return to the starting lineup for the first time –  since the 1-0 triumph at Southampton in September.

Jones is expected to recover from a minor hip problem sustained in the 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town last weekend while Bailly has recently returned to training after overcoming a groin problem of his own.
