Manchester United are expected to be without five first-team players when they host Burnley in the Premier League on Boxing Day. The Red Devils had to settle for a share of the spoils in the previous outing after Leicester City’s Harry Maguire scored in the dying seconds of the game to claim a 2-2 draw.
According to ESPN FC, the likes of Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian have joined the injury list with the former sustaining a groin injury, which ultimately contributed to his lack of awareness for Maguire’s equaliser. Darmian, on the other hand, failed to make the matchday squad altogether after having sustained a problem, which remains ‘undefined’ as of now.
Aside from the pair, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini are already sidelined until the New Year owing to a heart procedure and knee injury respectively whilst Eric Bailly is a long-term absentee after having undergone a successful surgery on an ankle problem.
Standing captain Antonio Valencia has also been out for the past two games across all competitions with a hamstring niggle, and the Ecuadorian looks certain to miss the festive games, unless he makes a miraculous recovery of some sort.
