Matteo Darmian has rubbished speculation of him leaving Manchester United during this summer’s transfer window. The 27-year-old has been in-and-out of the Red Devils first-team since his arrival from Torino two years ago.
Darmian has experienced severals ups and downs during his short United career, but he put up a string of impressive displays under Jose Mourinho in the backend of last season. As a result, the Italian started at left-back in the Europa League final against Ajax in May, where United ran victors by a 2-0 scoreline.
With the Champions League coming along, Mourinho is likely to rotate his squad across all competitions, and Darmian insists that he is happy to ply his trade at Old Trafford despite the continuous gossip over his future.
“Every time I read something about my future, but [there is] nothing news. I am happy here,” he told Sky Sports News. “I think also it is a part of our work, these kind of rumours.”
Darmian has the capability of playing on either side of the central defenders, and he is confident of working hard in order to stake a claim for a starting role under Mourinho.
Despite their EFL Cup and Europa League success, United finished a lowly sixth in the league standings last term, and Darmian believes that the club will seek to attain more silverware during the 2017/18 season.
