Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is understood to have made contact with AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci regarding a potential move to Old Trafford during the summer.
The Portuguese tactician is keen on pursuing a new centre-back during the off-season and of late, the club have been associated with Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
However, according to Calciomercato, Mourinho is understood to have made contact with the Rossoneri and Bonucci’s agent over the possibility of a summer switch to the Premier League.
Bonucci had an extremely impressive record at ex-club Juventus where he won the Scudetto in six of his seven seasons but the return to AC Milan has not quite worked out with the club presently in sixth spot.
Hence, the Rossoneri are likely to part ways with a couple of key players in order to balance their financial books and Bonnucci is one among those, who could be shown the exit door alongside keeper Gianluigi Donnarruma. However, AC Milan aren’t going to consider any offers below €40million(£35million).
United ended the Premier League campaign with the second best defensive record behind only Manchester City and a player of Bonucci’s calibre would surely strengthen the backline with Mourinho aiming to bridge the gap between the cross-town rivals.
Bonucci is going to be a real tower of strength in the English Premier League, he is at the tender age of 31. Stupidity even to suggest buying him.
