Manchester United are reported to have failed with an opening bid worth €65m for Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar. The Slovakia international only joined the Nerazzurri from Sampdoria last summer but played a key role in their long-awaited return to Champions League football.
Since the start of July, United have intensified their search for a new centre-back with Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly linked and Skriniar has emerged as the fresh option after his stellar showing for the Nerazzurri last term.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Calciomercato, the Nerazzurri have outrightly turned down a €65m bid from United for Skriniar, who is seemingly keen on extending his stay with the Serie A club.
United struggled to negotiate a transfer sum with Inter for Ivan Perisic during the previous summer transfer window and they appear to be facing a similar struggle with Skriniar, though the centre-back has no intention of leaving the San Siro.
As such, Mourinho may look elsewhere to bolster the heart of the defence, though the club’s supporters are supposedly more concerned about the left-back position, where the Portuguese is reliant on an ageing Ashley Young.
