From Italy: Serie A giants keen on signing Manchester United’s star forward

Martial MUFC

Juventus have reportedly held initial discussions with Anthony Martial’s representatives ahead of a possible approach during the summer. The France international has just 15 months left on his existing contract, though Manchester United have the option of triggering a 12-month extension clause.

According to Tuttosport, h/t Calciomercato, the Bianconeri are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, and they have made contact with the player’s entourage in order to push through a summer move. Moreover, compatriot Blaise Matuidi, formerly a target for United, is playing his part in convincing Martial into a switch to Turin.

Martial has had a top-notch season for United with 11 goals and 10 assists in 40 appearances, but his gametime has visibly lessened following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez. The former Monaco man has managed just four starts in eight matches since Sanchez’s signing, whilst failing to contribute to the scoresheet.

The Frenchman can be a menace for the opposition when playing at full throttle, but Mourinho’s reluctance to feature him on the left-wing has hampered his performances of late. During his recent average form, Marcus Rashford has capitalised with a man of the match showing against Liverpool, and it would not come as a surprise, if Martial only starts on the bench versus Swansea.

Keeping Martial at the club is essential to the team’s progress under Mourinho, but the failure to extend his contract prior to the summer, would surely entice United into a sale – should the attacker demand an exit from Old Trafford.
