Manchester United’s need for a new striker is well documented and the club have been linked with a number of options in the transfer market. The signing of Rasmus Hojlund a couple of seasons ago didn’t pan out as expected.
The Dane, despite showing a lot of promise, has failed to show the kind of consistency that would be expected of a player leading the line for Man Utd. Ruben Amorim will be looking at someone else who can play in that position going forward.
One player who is no stranger to the Premier League is Ivan Toney. The former Brentford number nine has been an excellent goalscorer in the past and although he might have spent a season away from England, he has the experience to lead the line for Man Utd.
As per ex-scout Mick Brown on Football Insider, Ivan Toney would be prepared to move to Man Utd this summer. The Al Ahli star has 30 goals and 6 assists from 44 appearances across all competitions which shows he has been in good form.
The 29-year-old is handsomely paid, as one would expect of someone playing in the Saudi Pro League and has a salary of around £20.8million a year. He would have to likely take a wage cut to join Old Trafford this summer.
Toney is different
Most of Man Utd’s striker targets have been youngsters who would be presenting the club with the same kind of gamble that Hojlund represented, when they signed him from Atalanta. Toney however will be different in this regard.
A physical striker, Toney is more than just goals. He is equally good at holding the ball up and creating chances for his teammates. The English international is also an excellent penalty taker, although Man Utd already have Bruno Fernandes.
Ultimately, it would all come down to the finances of the deal and how much Toney is willing to sacrifice to come to Man Utd this summer. It is an important decision for the Englishman and let’s wait and see how things play out.
