Manchester United have been linked with Portuguese international, Diogo Costa, for some time and the latest reports are intriguing.
Back in October, Diario de Noticias revealed that the Red Devils are favorites to hire the services of the Porto shot-stopper.
Transfer: Man Utd ready to strike, could secure £45m-£71m signing – Reports
As per today’s version of Jornal de Noticias (news image provide below), the English teams are not intimidated by the high release clauses of players in the Liga Nos.
The famous Portuguese media outlet have mentioned that Man Utd are not afraid to agree the £66.5million fee (75 million euros clause) required to secure the signing of Costa.
David De Gea has been the No. 1 goalie at Old Trafford for over a decade but in all fairness, the Spanish international is past his best.
The former Atletico Madrid star’s current deal with the Red Devils will expire next summer and Ten Hag should look to sign a young goalkeeper to replace him.
Diogo Costa, 23, has been brilliant for Porto in the current campaign and was a key member of the Seleccao squad that reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
This term, so far, he has made 20 appearances for the Dragons, conceded 17 goals, and kept 9 clean sheets, 3 in the UEFA Champions League.
In October, he made 5 saves from the penalty spot and became the first goalie in the history of the European Cup to save 3 penalty kicks in a row.
Have your say – Is Diego Costa good enough to replace De Gea at Man Utd?
Definitely Manchester United have to think ahead and sign a new GK to succeed and displace or takeover from David de Gea.
Although de Gea is holding the fort now and has performed well in the current campaign, he cannot be relied upon in the future.
His powers will surely wane and it is better to have a replacement lined up to take over from de Gea.
