Jones and Lukaku start, 4-2-3-1: Predicted Manchester United lineup vs Chelsea

Manchester United travel to west London for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea. The Red Devils secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the previous outing, and Jose Mourinho will expect more of the same against his ex-employers this weekend.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Lineup:

David de Gea has been ever-present in the top-flight this campaign, and he is assured of his place between the sticks. With a two centre-back partnership, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are likely to start ahead of Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling. Both Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young played no part in the midweek Champions League triumph over Benfica, but they are likely to retain their places in the right and left-wing back positions respectively.

Scott McTominay put in a solid performance on Tuesday night, but Jose Mourinho will be expected to pick his first-choice pairing of Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic for the central midfield duties.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has remained the preferable choice for the number 10 role since the start of the season, and Mourinho could persist with the Armenian despite his average form of late. Marcus Rashford is very much certain to start ahead of Anthony Martial on the left wing while Juan Mata could get the nod on the right side of the attack.

Romelu Lukaku has failed to score in his last six appearances for United, but this is unlikely to have an effect on his position. The 24-year-old provided a match-winning assist for Anthony Martial last weekend, and Mourinho has since insisted that the Belgian brings more than just goals.
