Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reported to have made contact with Cesc Fabregas during the Red Devils’ 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League last weekend.
United looked second best for most of the game, and they eventually succumbed to their second defeat of the campaign after Alvaro Morata netted the winner with a bullet header.
According to Don Balon, Mourinho used his return to west London to hold a secret conversation with Fabregas, whose Blues contract expires in just over 18 months’ time.
Fabregas played in a three-man midfield for the English champions on Sunday, and his passing and movement was exceptional as he outclassed the likes of Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic in midfield.
Despite the speculation, there has not been any contact between the clubs over a future transfer, and any deal in the future would be extremely difficult after the shrewd relationship built up between Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
United have already benefited from the services of Nemanja Matic, who joined from Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer, but a similar raid looks unlikely with Fabregas earning regular playing time under Conte.
Following last weekend’s defeat, Manchester United find themselves eight points behind table-toppers Manchester City, who won their ninth Premier League game on the trot.
