Jose Mourinho explains Alexis Sanchez’s absence vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho confirmed that Alexis Sanchez was carrying an injury which ruled him out of the Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday night.

The Red Devils were already without Romelu Lukaku, who has been carrying an ankle problem and the Chilean appears to have joined the Belgian in receiving treatment after missing the south Coast trip.

In the pre-match interview, Mourinho said: “We want to win and we think that this is the best team. Of course, Alexis and Lukaku have injuries, so they weren’t an option, but we believe in these players.”

Sanchez has been a regular start for the Mancunian giants since his winter switch from Arsenal and his only absence came during a midweek league triumph over Bournemouth where he was an used substitute.

Unlike Lukaku, Sanchez should be carrying a minor injury from training and hopefully, he can make his comeback for Thursday’s Premier League outing against West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Sanchez has received plenty of criticism for his habit of losing possession but he has impressed since the last international break with two goals and three assists across all competitions for United.
