Manchester United have reportedly made no progress with regards to the contract situation of Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese tactician has more than 18 months on his current United deal, but talks have already begun amid the ongoing speculation with Paris Saint-Germain.
According to ESPN, United held preliminary discussions with the 54-year-old in early September, but they have since found no breakthrough in terms of the fresh contract.
Earlier last month, Mourinho described Paris Saint-Germain’s project as ‘special’ following their big-money signing of Neymar in the summer, and this has constantly linked him with a move to Parc des Princes, although the French side are yet to make an approach.
Mourinho has spent nearly £285m in transfer fees to sign seven players in his reign, and this has improved the increase the overall quality and depth of the squad.
Irrespective of this, the gaffer is at cross-roads with the club’s hierarchy, who are reluctant to offer him a transfer kitty for the 2018 winter transfer window.
As per BBC Sport, Mourinho will have to offload some of his fringe players to recoup funds for the New Year, and this does not get any easier with the likes of Luke Shaw prepared to fight for his United future.
