Jose Mourinho gives green light for 22-year-old to leave Manchester United

According to Tuttosport via The Sun, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has given the green light for Anthony Martial to leave in the summer, amid interest from Juventus.

The 22-year-old has struggled for playing time this season, and the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January further hampered his chances of featuring. Martial is still well-liked by many of the club hierarchy, but Mourinho has made it clear that the French international won’t be a part of United’s long-term future.

Signed from AS Monaco in 2015, the pacey forward has gone on to make 135 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 62 goals. Martial has won the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup but looks to be at the end of his United journey.

Mourinho criticised his performance in a recent defeat to Brighton, saying that the reason Romelu Lukaku always leads the line in attack is because the supporting cast aren’t good enough. He fumed: “You have the answer now when you ask ‘why always Lukaku? We are probably not as good as people think we are individually.”

Martial’s deal is entering its final year, so the Red Devils will be keen to cash in on him rather than risk losing him for free next summer, opening the door to a Juventus move. The Serie A champions have been linked with the Frenchman for some time and could make an approach at the end of the season.
