Manchester United will reportedly make contract with Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil when the transfer window reopens in the New Year. The Germany international has shown no intention of signing a new Gunners deal, and he is likely to depart the Emirates at the end of the campaign.
Ozil, 28, has shared a close bond with manager Jose Mourinho since his time at former Real Madrid, and the Special One has gone to the extent of writing the foreword in the attacker’s recent biography.
According to The Independent, the Red Devils could be free to hold talks with Ozil in January when the World Cup winner will have entered the final six months of his contract.
However, United would still have to wait until the end of the season to sign him on a Bosman, as only foreign clubs are permitted to finalise a pre-contract during the winter transfer window.
Turkish giants Fenerbahce have also been credited with an interest in Ozil, although Mourinho is ‘highly confident’ of luring his former Los Blancos player to Old Trafford.
£140,000-a-week star was sparingly used by Arsenal during the month of September with a minor knee injury keeping him out of key games against Chelsea, BATE Borisov and Brighton and Hove Albion.
