Jose Mourinho could sign Ligue 1’s box-to-box midfielder after Sanchez deal: report

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly aiming to add a further recruit this month with Nice’s Jean Michael Seri apparently on his radar. The Ivory Coast international was constantly linked with a Premier League during last summer’s transfer window.

According to The Sun, the Portuguese tactician appears to be on the search for another winter signing after wrapping up the services of Sanchez in a player-swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan. A number of players including Lucas Moura have been associated in the recent past, but the manager has placed his emphasis on bolstering the midfield department.

United are certain to be short in the centre of the park in the summer with Michael Carrick due to join the backroom staff whilst Marouane Fellaini is seemingly prepared to run down the final six months of his existing deal.

Seri has developed his reputation as a box-to-box midfielder with Nice, who rarely gives the ball away, and Mourinho sees him as a prime candidate to bolster the squad this month, though he is prepared to wait for a suitable agreement until the summer.

United’s league campaign was hampered by mid-season injuries to both Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini, and Mourinho seems eager to avoid a similar situation by recruiting Seri, who has been dubbed as the African Xavi.
